Although technology-enhanced services are posited to promote therapeutic alliance, a critical
element of treatment engagement, relatively little research has examined this hypothesis, particularly with treatments targeting child mental health. As such, this study preliminarily examined the link between parent-therapist alliance and a range of treatment outcomes between the standard treatment for early onset disruptive behavior disorders, Behavioral Parent Training (BPT), and a technology-enhanced version. Findings revealed small to moderate effects of alliance on outcomes for both groups; however, differences in patterns of alliance and technology use within the technology-enhanced group suggest implications for better understanding the impact of technology on the therapeutic process, the deployment of existing technology-enhanced services, and the development of future technology-enhanced services.
