This three hour workshop is designed to enhance cultural competency and minority health curriculum in the Gillings School of Public Health. It is accessible to any UNC graduate student, alumni, or faculty who wants to gain familiarity with LGBTQ-related issues in health. Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to demonstrate competencies in each of the following: ? Explain distinctions between concepts of sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc. ? Demonstrate an ability to communicate with sexual minorities using sensitivity and current LGBTQ-related terminology. ? Name the major health disparities facing lesbians, bisexual women, and transgender men in the US. ? Articulate increased comfort when working with LGBTQ individuals including co-workers, colleagues, and patients or clients. ? Demonstrate a commitment to the need for additional training on LGBTQ-related issues for public health students and professionals.
