There was a scene in our group film that showed a south campus student explaining to a Granville student how unrealistic the map that they had of south campus was. This scene was an interpretation of a scene in Embrace of the Serpent, where Karamakate expressed his disbelief at how small-minded the European explorers were when traveling to the Amazon. The explorers believed that they knew everything about the Amazon (the history of the land, people, and living things) when in reality, they knew little about the actual history behind the Amazonian people. This scene illustrated how some people believe that the world revolves around the things that they see every day, and they remain ignorant about the new world that appears before them. We incorporated ideas and themes from the movie into our script and the use of mapping (the unrealistic map to south campus) as well.
