In this interview, Debra Guy shares her experiences as a queer mom, musician, and wife living in Charlottesville, VA. They begin by discussing their early experiences as a queer person in their hometown of Chesapeake and as a student at George Mason University. She talks about carrying and birthing her daughter Ruby as a butch person and her and her wife’s activism for marriage equality in Virginia. They also discuss their music and how their gender identity impacts their music career. She talks about how it can be difficult to find queer community in Charlottesville, especially as a parent, and about straight people’s presence at Cville Pride.
