Molecular Adsorbents Recirculating System (MARS) is an
extracorporeal liver support system eliminating albumin-bound and water-soluble substances. While it is increasingly applied in patients with liver failure, no comparison of different flow rates of the secondary dialysate circuit has yet been preformed. In this study, we have shown that in MARS the clearance of albumin bound and unbound substances is influenced by the flow rates of the secondary dialysate circute as well as by the form of dialysis preformed (albumin-containing solution or standard bicarbonate solution).
