This study was conducted to test the efficacy of intraligamentary anesthesia using a pistol type syringe with pressure limiting mechanism for extraction of mandibular posterior teeth in comparison to inferior alveolar nerve block. Primary objective was to evaluate the differences in pain during treatment as well as in anesthetic quality. Intraligamentary anesthesia is comparable to the inferior alveolar nerve block in respect to the success rate and the profoundness of anesthesia. In addition, intraligamentary anesthesia offers many advantages for both the practitioner and the patient.
