In this context «the time of Barthes» is the 18th century, it is the time of Rococo and Marquis de Sade. In his book Sade, Fourier, Loyola, Barthes calls Sade a logothet, a founder of language. He describes a system and defines principles of Sade’s writing. One of the themes, namely a «sensual pleasure of classification», specifies a relation of Marquis de Sade’s writing to the Rocail. In this article I will address two questions: Does the text of Marquis de Sade maintain the Rocail spirit? and, Whether Rococo could be seen and perceived through the lens of the Sadian text?
