Joseph Needham (1900–1995) was a British biochemist known for his significant contributions to the field of history of science and technology, particularly in relation to China. Needham's connection with India primarily came through his work with UNESCO. He was part of UNESCO's Field Science Cooperation Offices, which aimed to promote scientific collaboration and exchange across different cultures. Needham was a key figure in both of scientific humanism and anti-racism, and made significant contributions to the final 1951 UNESCO statement on race.
