The body of artworks that form 'Dressed inPattern' was the outcome of archivalresearch, funded by Arts Council England(2014), into the English ceramic factory,Spode’s archive of engraved copper plates.The archive includes over 25,000 engravedcopper plates, dating back to 1780, fromwhich ceramic tissue transfer prints werepulled and applied to ceramic ware. Fromthis archive, Hodes selected a small groupthat included their early 19th centurycelebrated ‘Picnic Tower’ and chintzpatterns, as a resource for new artworks.
