Often found in Oaxaca, Mexico, Zapotec Urns are ceramic funerary vessels with either anthropomorphic or zoomorphic effigies attched. These vessels are found in mortuary contexts like tombs. Ceramics made in the Oaxaca Valley are often identified by their grey coloring and are commonly referred to as greyware. Oftentimes, Oaxacan greyware is accompanied with the application of red pigment made of cinnabar or hematite.
This particular vessel showcases a human figure with a glyph on the headpiece.
