A newly identified imitative Athenian tetradrachm bearing an anchor symbol sheds light on the development of imitative coinage in the easternmost region of the Seleukid empire during the first half of the 3rd century BC. Analysis of the coin suggests that it was struck in the period 300-250 BC in a part of the eastern Seleukid realm that was not served by an official Seleukid mint. It supports the interpretation that imitative Athenian coinage was struck in parts of this region well into the 3rd century BC
