The probability of the importation of S. frugiperda to Europe is very high - caterpillars imported with imported plant material have been repeatedly recorded, but under current climatic conditions it is not able to establish established populations in Poland. If numerous populations of S. frugiperda appear in northern Africa or southern Europe, it is possible that it may reach Poland through spontaneous migration. Currently, the larvae of this species are very often detected by European phytosanitary services, and the appearance of this species under field conditions in Germany has also been reported. Identification of the threat is facilitated by the fact that traces of caterpillar feeding are usually clearly visible and relatively easy to detect. However, the larvae themselves can hide on plants in various ways, including by biting into the inside of stems, shoots, fruits, etc. Therefore, plant material imported from the area where the agrophage is present should be thoroughly inspected and, if necessary, quarantined or disinfected. In our conditions, this mainly concerns the spring-summer period, when the larvae could complete their development under field conditions. A thorough inspection should also take place in the countries of the Mediterranean region, where the species may already in the near future acclimatize to field conditions.
