The probability of the importation of Spodoptera eridania into Europe is very high - caterpillars imported with imported plant material, mainly in peppers, have been repeatedly recorded. Under current climatic conditions, it is unable to produce established populations in Poland. There is some danger that the species may colonize crops under covers, but this is subject to a high degree of uncertainty. In the event of the appearance of numerous populations of S. eridania in southern Europe, it is possible for it to reach Poland by spontaneous migration. Identification of the threat is facilitated by the fact that caterpillar feeding traces are usually clearly visible and relatively easy to detect. However, the larvae themselves can hide on plants in various ways, including by biting into the inside of stems, shoots, fruits, etc. Therefore, plant material imported from the area where the agrophage is present should be thoroughly inspected and, if necessary, quarantined or disinfected. In our conditions, this mainly concerns the spring-summer period, when the larvae could complete their development under field conditions. Thorough inspection should also take place in Mediterranean countries, where the species could already acclimatize to field conditions in the near future. field conditions.
