The series “O Litoral para Crianças” is an adaptation for Portuguese and Portugal of "Coasts for Kids". The original series resulted from a transdisciplinary team effort co-ordinated by Irene Delgado-Fernandez (formerly at Edge Hill University, UK, and currently at University of Cadiz). Project resources were co-created by children, their families, teachers, artists, and coastal scientists in 2021. In five short episodes, school pupils aged 6-10 explain what the coast is, its dynamics, the various environments that compose it (highlighting those located in the Algarve), how people affect the coast and what can be done to protect it. The videos and their content are freely accessible, which can be watched with or without parental supervision and in an educational context. The fifth episode (Episódio 5) explains several key coastal management concepts and the benefits of understanding that coastal areas are dynamic systems when it comes to coastal planning. This episode closes the series with brief references to coastal engineering, coastal communities, and the importance of local conditions and biodiversity.
