YAT undertook a watching brief commencing on the 12th December 2016 at the Laurels, Church Fenton , on groundworks related to the construction of 25 dwellings, garages and associated access road. This was carried out in response to an archaeological planning condition imposed by North Yorkshire County Council. The reason for the archaeological condition was that the site is thought to form part of a medieval moated manor complex. Following observation of the road strip and the foundations for 8 dwellings no features or deposits of archaeological importance were identified. Following these results a decision was made in consultation with Peter Rowe Principal Archaeologist for North Yorkshire County Council for the watching brief to be curtailed.
