Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd undertook a geophysical (magnetometer) survey, covering approximately 20 hectares south-east of Blackburn, to provide information on the archaeological potential of the proposed development area (PDA), prior to the submission of a planning application for a mixed residential and commercial development. No anomalies of definite archaeological origin have been identified by the survey although a pair of linear anomalies of possible archaeological potential have been identified in the north-west of the PDA. Several linear anomalies indicative of former field boundaries and ploughing are located throughout the PDA. Therefore, on the basis of the geophysical survey, the archaeological potential of the PDA is assessed as low.
