Archaeology South-East (ASE), a division of the University College London Centre for Applied Archaeology (UCLCAA), was commissioned by Thomas Ford and Partners on behalf of the Great Dixter Trust to undertake archaeological monitoring during the mechanical and manual excavation of a pipe trench within the grounds of the historic house. The work was undertaken between the 7th December 2010 and the 24th March 2011. A total of c.256m of pipe trench were monitored. No significant archaeological deposits or features were encountered. A single fragment of clkay pipe was recovered fom the overburden.
