An archaeological Desk-based Assessment has been carried out at The Pubb, Mountfield Road, Hampden Park, Eastbourne, East Sussex in connection with a planning application for the construction of a new residential development. This Desk-based Assessment has established that the site has medium potential for producing archaeological remains dating to most of prehistory, when the Levels would have been exploited. The archaeological potential is at its lowest for the Roman and Saxon periods, during which time the Site is likely to have been submerged. The Site has probably been pasture since the medieval period, when the Levels were reclaimed It has medium potential for containing medieval and Post Medieval field ditches and drains. The public house was built on the Site sometime between 1925 and 1938.
