On 20th January 2020, Oxford Archaeology undertook a trial trench evaluation on the site of a proposed residential development at Estcourt Road, Gloucester. The works comprised the excavation of two trenches. Archaeological remains were present in both trenches and comprised two broadly parallel NNE-SSW aligned ditches, a north-south aligned ditch and a cremation burial. The ditches are undated, with artefactual evidence limited to animal bone. Pottery recovered from the surface of the cremation burial has been dated to 1st-2nd century AD. The cremation burial was left in-situ.
