Archaeology South-East (ASE), the contracting division of the Centre for Applied Archaeology (CAA), Institute of Archaeology (IoA), University College London (UCL) was commissioned by Berkeley Homes (Southern) Ltd. to undertake an archaeological evaluation at Howard of Effingham School (Site 2), Browns Lane, Effingham, Surrey (NGR 511986 153893). Thirteen trial trenches were mechanically excavated to a cumulative length of 390m, providing a c.4% of the site. A medieval gully and two undated gullies were identified in trenches at the northern end of the site, but no other features were observed. A small assemblage of artefacts including flintwork, medieval and post-medieval pottery was recovered from the overburden.
