A programme of historic building recording was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust at the White Hart Hotel, 1 High Street, West Mersea, Essex in August 2018. The hotel consists of a complex of eight connected buildings. The vast majority of these buildings have their origins in the late 19th century, including a large building on the frontage of the High Street with impressive faux timber-framing. At the core of the hotel is a small one-bay structure that contains a late 15th century chimney-stack, remnants of a hand-sawn timber-frame and a collar-purlin roof. This building is the oldest in the hotel, and one around which the other structures have been erected.
