An archaeological strip, map and excavation was carried out before the construction of a soakaway associated with a new sports hall. The site is situated in the grounds of Colchester County High School for Girls, on land that was formerly part of the estate of the Victorian mansion Altnacealgach House. A number of archaeological investigations have been undertaken in the grounds of the school since its construction, uncovering a 'tripled-ditched dyke', pits, ditches and post-holes dating to the Roman period. In this excavation two undated features were uncovered, a ditch and a pit, along with one natural feature. Due to the location of the features in relation to previous excavations it is likely these features are Roman in date.
