PHASE 1 of an evaluation, consisting of seven 30m long trial trenches, was undertaken on behalf of Cameron Homes, prior to an application for the construction of 25 new houses and upgraded commercial buildings, at Priory Nurseries, Breedon on the Hill, Leicestershire. No significant archaeological features were revealed in the trenches although some trenches had evidence for medieval or post-medieval agriculture in the form of furrows. A small assemblage of pottery was recovered which seems likely to have derived from manure scattering. Although several of the trenches were uncommonly deep, no trace of the ponds, known to exist elsewhere on the site, was found.
