A watching brief was maintained during site infrastructure works in advance of residential development of The Paddock, Cleasby, North Yorkshire. It is possible that the site comprises the original eastern end of the medieval village green, from which it is now separated by a row of 18th/early-19th century buildings. No archaeological deposits or pre-modern artefacts were encountered during the watching brief. This is consistent with cartographic evidence showing that the site has been open greenspace for at least the last 150 years.
