A watching brief was undertaken using a rubber tracked 3 tone excavator with one metre ditching bucket. This was used in conjunction with the positioning of two Shepherd huts and associated services. Each hut covered 6m by 2.50m. The impact into underlying strata was minimal with exposed natural geology kept to a minimum. The excavation involved four one metre square pits to provide hardstanding pads for a pair of wheel stands for each hut. Also ground-works including three 2m by 1m areas of hardstanding associated with an access road of Twenty Acre Lane. The exercise proved negative for archaeological remains with only the trace of a modern ditch which probably served as a field boundary.
