The historic building survey consists of a rapid desk-based assessment and a site visit, which was undertaken on 8th December 2021. The historic building survey was concerned with six T-shaped cottages for children constructed in c.1890 to the south-west side of the original Burnley Workhouse complex on Briercliffe Road. The cottages were certainly in existence by 1892, when historic mapping shows them as evenly spaced to the south-west side of a lawned area. The cottages would presumably have provided more homely accommodation for groups of children, compared to the large dormitories of the Workhouse.
