Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Terence O'Rourke Ltd, on behalf of Countryside Properties (Bicester) Ltd to undertake an archaeological evaluation on land south-west of Bicester, Oxfordshire (NGR 457100 222000). The evaluation formed part of a programme of archaeological work in connection with proposals for development. The land evaluated was agricultural; mainly arable with two small areas of pasture. Previous evaluation on land immediately to the east by Oxford Archaeology (2002) uncovered evidence for Romano-British settlement. The Iron Age/Romano-British settlement site of Alchester and a Saxon cemetery have been excavated a short distance to the south east of the Site.
