Approximately 12m of foundation trenching was mechanically-excavated. The trench was cut through a layer of topsoil (L1, c 0.10m thick, soft, moist, dark grey/brown sandy loam), and subsoil (L2, c 0.60m thick, soft, moist medium yellow/brown sandy silt) and into the natural sands and gravels (L3, c 0.70m below current ground level, soft, moist, moist, medium orange/brown sand with gravel). The trench was 0.45m wide and 0.70m deep. Nothing of archaeological significance was observed and, as groundworks were located c 25m to the south-west of Lexden Dyke Middle, this monument was not impacted by the development.
