An area for a concrete raft measuring 3.13m by 4.40m was mechanically excavated under the supervision of a CAT archaeologist. Four pads were hand-excavated and the concrete poured prior to the attendance of a CAT archaeologist. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at 22 Roman Road, Colchester, Essex, during groundworks for a two-storey extension to the rear of the property. The site lies within the Roman walled town, only 50m away from the a surviving stretch of the wall. The only feature observed was a post-medieval pit in the raft reduction as the pads were excavated and poured prior to an archaeologists attendance.
