All groundworks were carried out by the contractor. They were continuously monitored for archaeological remains by a CAT archaeologist. All archaeological horizons were excavated and recorded according to the WSI. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at land adjacent to 11 Weavers Lane, Sudbury, Suffolk during groundworks for underpinning of a building on the grounds of this address. 11-12 Weavers Lane itself is a Grade II* listed building, and evidence of the town's late Anglo-Saxon/early medieval defensive ditch has been found close by to the development site. Sudbury itself is a prosperous market town with Anglo-Saxon origins, with evidence of earlier human activity found. Unfortunately work carried out during groundworks were were too limited to reveal or confirm archaeological remains.
