Between 20th February and 1st March 2023, Oxford Archaeology East conducted a trial trench evaluation at the site of Grange Farm, Westleton in advance of the construction of a reservoir. A total of 28 trenches were excavated in the proposed development area, which covered an area of 3.8ha of agricultural land. In total four ditches were identified along with seventeen postholes/small pits. Very few dateable finds were recovered from any of these features but at least three of the ditches correspond with a system of field boundaries shown on late 19th century maps of the area, and most of the other features are also likely to relate to post-medieval to modern agricultural land use.
