The following actions were taken to gather the baseline and establish the archaeological and built heritage potential: a search of the Historic England National Heritage List for England (NHLE) dataset for designated heritage assets within the study area; a search of the Lancashire Historic Environment Record (HER) database for non-designated assets within the study area; an examination of local, regional and national planning polices in relation to the historic environment; an inspection of the cartographic evidence for the use history of the site; an examination of geological data including historic borehole logs via the British Geological Survey (BGS) mapping; previous archaeological surveys and investigations within the study area; and an assessment of relevant published and unpublished historical sources. This archaeological DBA has been carried out to support a planning application for construction of a new powered screen chamber, underground detention tank, electricity control kiosk, and permanent access road at Sudell's Farm, Langho, Blackburn (SD 70679 36146).The works are being undertaken as part of a larger scheme to improve water quality in the Ribble valley with the aim of reducing the number of discharges from the combined sewer overflow (CSO) into Bushburn Brook. This assessment has been carried out to identify potential heritage risks associated with the Scheme. The assessment has incorporated a review of designated heritage assets (scheduled monuments and listed buildings) and non-designated heritage assets (other built heritage assets, archaeological remains) within the study area.
