The archaeological works has shown the presence of Roman archaeology, a disturbed dry-stone wall, within the proposed development area, which lies within the scheduled area of the Roman town of Crococalana. The findings appear to correspond with previous geophysical works which showed a high resistance anomaly north of the exposed stone feature, which could be related to further stone or bricks. The potential wall and later occupation layer would appear to extend beyond the limit of excavation to the northwest and southwest, their full extent are to date, unknown. The archaeological scheme of works identified a potentially disturbed, Roman drystone wall that follows the same orientation as Fosse Road. A potential occupation layer of 3rd century date, containing frequent pottery, ceramic building material and animal bone sealed the wall. The high volume of finds from the layer suggested settlement activity on or in the immediate vicinity of the site.
