Detailed magnetometry was carried out by Archaeological Surveys Ltd, ahead of a mixed use development at Sherecroft Farm, near Botley in Hampshire. The survey was conducted using a hand-pushed, cart-based system of 5 magnetometers spaced 0.5m apart with readings recorded at 20Hz. The results indicate the presence of a rectilinear anomaly in the eastern part of the site with a number of other positive and negative anomalies in the vicinity. However, the origin of the anomalies cannot be confidently determined. Elsewhere the anomalies generally lack a coherent morphology, although a small group of positive anomalies in the central part of the site and another close to the western edge appear to relate to magnetically enhanced features that may be associated with anthropogenic features.
