Border Archaeology (BA) was instructed by Aitch Group to carry out a programme of Detailed Archaeological Assessment in respect of a proposed residential development on the site of a former education/training centre and former industrial premises at Nos. 33-35 Monier Road, Bow, London E3 2PR. The archaeological potential of the site has been assessed, in overall terms, as Moderate. Recent archaeological investigations in the vicinity of the study area have identified the potential for encountering evidence of alluvial silt and peat deposits of palaeoenvironmental significance and Roman occupation features and deposits (including timber structures); however, it is likely that they will lie beneath deep deposits of post-medieval/modern made ground and disturbed alluvium, quite possibly extending to a depth in excess of 4m in places.
