This report sets out the results of an Archaeological Evaluation by Trial Trenching that was carried out by MAP Archaeological Practice Ltd. on land north of Orchard Close, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire (SE 3553 5825). The work was undertaken in order to inform the Principal Archaeologist at North Yorkshire County Council of the archaeological potential of this site, prior to the commencement of a residential development with associated infrastructure. Six trenches were excavated using a tracked excavator. In each trench topsoil and subsoil was judiciously excavated down to the level of buried archaeological features or natural geology. A total of six trenches were excavated, one of which contained an archaeological feature, suggestive of an eighteenth-century field boundary.
