Mass Layoffs (NAICS) [Archive]: Total Initial Claimants, Industry Data from 1995-Present (NAICS), Non-Seasonally Adjusted | Country: USA | State: Utah | Industry*: Total all industries, 1996-2012. Data-Planet™ Statistical Ready Reference by Conquest Systems, Inc. [Data-file]. Dataset-ID: 002-015-002.
Dataset: Reports total initial unemployment claimants by industry. An initial claimant is a person who files any notice of unemployment to initiate a request either for a determination of entitlement to and eligibility for compensation, or for a subsequent period of unemployment within a benefit year or period of eligibility. Not seasonally adjusted is used to describe data series that have not been subjected to the seasonal adjustment process.
The Mass Layoff Statistics program is a federal-state cooperative statistical effort that uses a standardized, automated approach to identify, describe, and track the effects of major job cutbacks, using data from each state's unemployment insurance database. A mass layoff is a situation in which 50 or more persons have filed initial claims for unemployment insurance benefits against an establishment during a consecutive 5-week period. Note: On March 1, 2013, President Obama ordered into effect the across-the-board spending cuts (commonly referred to as sequestration) as required by the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act, as amended. The Bureau of Labor of Statistics eliminated the Mass Layoffs programs as part of its effort to achieve the mandated loss of appropriations.
This dataset uses the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).
