United States Census Bureau. 2010 US Census of Population and Housing: Demographic Profiles: Table DPSF8 - Total Population by Race | State: Washington | Demographic Indicator*: Population of Race Black or African American, 2010. Data-Planet™ Statistical Datasets by Conquest Systems, Inc. Dataset-ID: 001-044-009
Dataset: Reports a count of the United States population at the national (including Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico), state, and county level, by race. The US Census Bureau collects data on race in accordance with guidelines set by the US Office of Management and Budget. The data are based on self-categorization and reflect social definitions of race, rather than biological, anthropological, or genetic definitions. The racial classifications used adhere to the 10/30/1997 Federal Register Notice entitled "Revisions to the Standards for the Classification of Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity." The six high-level classifications used in the Census are: White, Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Native or Other Pacific Islander, and Some Other Race. Respondents may choose to report more than one racial identification, a classification reported as Two or More Races.
The United States Census of Population and Housing counts every resident in the United States every 10 years, as mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution. The data collected by the decennial census are used to determine the number of seats each state has in the US House of Representatives and to allocate federal funds to local communities. The Demographic Profile Summary File presents 100% of data obtained in the 2010 decennial census and provides details about race and Hispanic groups, age, sex, and housing status of the US population. The profiles are released on a state-by-state basis for each of the 50 states, Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico.
