Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Healthy Weight/Overweight/Obesity, ages 20+, US; 1993-2006: Overweight including Obese | State: Alabama | Age: 25-44 | Race: All | Gender: Both sexes, 1995 - 2004. Data-Planet™ Statistical Datasets by Conquest Systems, Inc. Dataset-ID: 005-052-003
Dataset: Presents data on persons categorized as "Overweight" or "Obese," which is defined as having body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to 25.0. BMI is calculated as weight (in kg) divided by height squared (in meters squared). BMI is commonly used to classify overweight (BMI between 25.0 and 29.9) and obesity (BMI greater than or equal to 30.0) among adults.
This dataset presents trends in the percent of persons who under federal guidelines are considered to be at a healthy weight (normal), overweight, or obese based on self-reported weight and height from 1993 to 2006 (two or three year moving averages), by state, sex, race-Hispanic origin, and age. The data are from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). BRFSS was designed to collect state-level data through telephone surveys. State public health departments are collaborators with the Center for Disease Control in producing these data. These surveys sample the non-institutionalized resident population 18 years of age and over. More detailed information regarding BRFSS data can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/brfss.
