Summary- High sub-soil boron levels, which occur commonly in dry areas, can cause boron toxicity in plants. Symptoms of boron toxicity on our crops have not been widely and commonly seen in the Prairies because of the ‘cover-up’ effect of our weather and misjudgement of the symptoms. The author presents ideas and preliminary data to indicate that the Prairies could have high boron soils causing boron toxicity and reducing crop performance there.
