This paper examined the significance of counselling for political stability in Nigeria. Political stability is a phrase with high esteemed value which can affect the survival of modernization and development. This paper highlighted some of the factors that lead to political instability in Nigeria which include ethnic violence, godfatherism, internal terrorism, crime, corruption and domestic violence and bandits. It emphasised the effect of political instability as it affects individuals, policy implementation, education, businesses and Nation. The paper concluded with the way forward and counselling implications that explained the role of the counsellors in dealing with the problems of Nigeria politics, which requires counselling principles to solve the problem of political instability in that, to recognize each person as an individual to be treated with equity and justice. It suggested some strategies to be adopted by counsellors to enable political stability in Nigeria. The recommendation included that counsellors should carry out programmes for politicians to develop high moral conduct and the practical fear of God in the society that need to demonstrate through moderate life style, the virtue of contentment and help cultivate the sense of dignity in labour and discipline.
