Hydrogen bond acceptors tend to more polar and numerous in molecular structures of interest to drug discovery scientists which has implications for optimization of permeability and aqueous solubility. The presence of a hydrogen bond donor in a molecular structure implies typically implies that a hydrogen bond acceptor is also present (but not vice versa) and this has implications for optimization of target-ligand interactions.
