INSIVUMEH is the public institute in the Republic of Guatemala charged with the task of monitoring and studying the seismic activity affecting the nation. To do so, this institute operates the National Seismological Network, with seismic stations installed all over the nation.
This network started operating during 1976, consisting only of short period analog stations. Since 2013 however, these stations have slowly being replaced by more modern, digital stations. As of now, the network consists of 15 broadband stations, 11 short period stations and 5 strong motion stations. Plans of acquiring new stations and expanding the network are currently being developed.
