The principal objective of the northern Borneo Orogeny Seismic Survey (nBOSS) experiment was to image the crust and the mantle beneath northern Borneo using various seismic imaging techniques—body-wave tomography, receiver functions, shear-wave splitting, to name a few—in order to explore and better understand the post-subduction setting. This was achieved through the deployment of a 46-instrument network across Sabah, which is roughly co-extensive with northern Borneo.
The nBOSS network was configured in a regular grid, alternating chequerboard-style between the two instrument models in the pool - the 3ESPCD (100 Hz-60 s) and 6TD (100 Hz-30 s), both of which are broadband seismometers manufactured by Güralp Systems Ltd.
