On 19th March 2022, the island of Sāo Jorge experienced high levels of seismicity, more than 29,000 M2-3.3 events were recorded in a short period of time. This seismic swarm is the reason for the deployment of six OBIC (UK Ocean Bottom Instrumentation Consortium) short-period ocean-bottom seismometers plus hydrophones surrounding Sāo Jorge over five months.
