Plínio A. Barbosa obtained his PhD degree in 1994 (with Félicitations du Jury), by the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble/Institut de la Communication Parlée, Grenoble, France. He is associate professor of the Department of Linguistics of the Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem at the State University of Campinas (Brazil), and responsible for the Speech Prosody Studies Group, a team of researchers and students working on (dynamical) analysis and modelling of speech prosody. He has published more than 130 papers in international and national journals and congress proceedings (e.g. ICPhS, Interspeech, and Speech Prosody), besides the books Incursões em torno do ritmo da fala (Campinas: Pontes Editores) in 2006 and Manual de Fonética Acústica Experimental (São Paulo: Cortez) in 2015 with Sandra Madureira. Besides having proposed a coupled oscillators dynamical model for dealing with speech rhythm, he investigates with several collaborators description and modelling of speaking styles, Brazilian sign language, breathing and speech coordination, bioacoustics and phonetics of L2. He is Editor of the journal Journal of Speech Sciences, a member of the editorial board of Phonetica and the International Journal of Speech Technology, and the Brazilian journals DELTA, ReVeL, Revista de Estudos da Linguagem, Veredas, Distúrbios da Comunicação. He is current member of the following associations: IPA, ISCA, IEEE Associated and the Permanent Advisory Council of the SproSIG and of the section of Education at the IPA.
