My background is in marine chemistry. My research is based on the the carbon cycle, trace gases and air-sea gas fluxes. I've also worked extensively with deliberate tracers (SF6, Helium-3, rhodamines and spores) to determine air-sea gas transfer rates, in pioneering in-situ iron fertilisation experiments and enable Lagrangian studies of marine biogeochemistry. I've spent the equivalent of two years at sea and undertaken field work in rivers, estuaries, coastal seas and mostly on the open ocean. I've reviewed for a range of international journals and funding bodies. I've worked in the School of Environmental Scences at the University of East Anglia, spent many years at the Plymouth Marine Laboratory and am currently working for Rothamsted Research in North Wyke, Devon. I am a Chartered Chemist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, an emeritus fellow at PML and have an honorary professorship at UEA.
