Luqman Muraina has interests in academia (higher education), agribusiness, and African-based development and advocacy. He started a Global Development PhD programme at the ICGD, University of York, in 2023. His PhD study investigates decolonization in the teaching of Development Studies in Nigerian higher education, supervised by Sara de Jong and Eleanor Brown. His research interest includes decolonization, higher education, African politics & development, black/decolonial feminism, social movement, etc.
Luqman completed his MA Sociology degree at the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa, in 2022 with funding from the Mastercard Foundation and was a pioneer B.Sc. Sociology First Class degree holder from Olabisi Onabanjo University. Luqman has over three years of teaching and research assistantship experience and affiliations to UCT, University of Lagos, and Igbinedion University. Luqman has published six peer-reviewed articles, amongst other short content and opinions, which he regularly shares on his social media pages. He co-directs the activity of an emerging agribusiness in Nigeria - Quality Breeds Enterprises.
Luqman dreams of an African continent that can stand tall amongst Global North nations and a world free from inequalities, imperialism, social injustices, and violence. Finally, Luqman strongly identifies as a Black person and a Muslim.
