Dr. Alexander Hayes is a Scottish Australian artist and independent researcher, managing complex projects as principal partner with Oethica Group Productions. drawing upon decades of expertise as a graphic designer, web developer and interdisciplinary educator.
He is currently engaged as a senior archivist and analyst with Madjulla Incorporated in conjunction with the Martuwarra Fitzroy River Council (MFCR) on the multimedia Australian Aboriginal Nyikina Language & Cultural Database (NCDb) and executive producer of the documentary film 'On Australian Shores: Survivor Stories' released in 2022 on SBS & NITV. Hayes is also author of several non-fiction biographical ethnographies, data publisher of multicultural creative works, editor of multiple Aboriginal (Australia) authors papers and executive producer of short films with a social justice and human rights focus for Australian charitable foundations, and NGO stakeholder groups.
Hayes graduated in March 2021 with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) completed by thesis at the University of Wollongong, NSW Australia and Aalto University, Helsinki Finland, in the Faculty of Engineering & Information Systems, School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT) and Innovation in Business and Social Research (IBSOR). The ethnographic research inquiry research titled 'The Socioethical Implications of Body Worn Computers: An Ethnographic Study' contributes stakeholder accounts of the social impact and ethical implications of wearable computing as an ethical framework, published in peer-reviewed journals, IEEE special issue articles, book chapters, and reports.
Hayes is adept at engaging with a broad range of stakeholder groups as an information and communication systems expert, often as executive producer for multi-media productions including digital film, web development and print productions. With over twenty years of learning, change and content management experience, which conceptually intersects with his research and creative practice, he has catalysed, facilitated and administered multiple online communities, often culminating with international events conducted through virtually mediated communication spaces.
Hayes is an active member of the Australian Privacy Foundation (APF), the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), the UNAA Academic Network (WA Division).
