Richard is Professor of Enterprise and Organisation at The Open University, UK. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the ERSC Centre for Understanding Sustainable Prosperity (CUSP), University of Surrey. Richard studied at the London School of Economics (BSc Hons (Econ)), Bradford University (MBA) and The University of Birmingham (PhD). Prior to taking up an academic career, he worked for two large local and central government organisations, a specialist marketing research consultancy and a diversified multinational firm. Richard is an associate of the inter-faculty Centre for Innovation, Knowledge and Development (IKD) and edited the Quarterly Survey of Small Business in Britain (2010-14). He has served as a board member of the Institute of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE), chaired ISBE's conference track, 'Social, Environmental and Ethical Enterprise', and served as deputy chair of the 'Social and Sustainable Enterprise Network'. He is co-author of the textbook, Exploring Entrepreneurship (Sage, 2017), with Nigel Lockett, Strathclyde University and Catherine Wang, Brunel University.
